Chemotherapy with Three Dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy for Locally Advanced Pancreatic Cancer

Objective To evaluate the effect of the chemotherapy with three dimensional conformal radiotherapy on the locally acvanced pancreatic cancer. Methods 49 patients with advanced pancreatic cancer from September 1999 to March 2003, the therapy group 23 patients were treated with three dimensional conformal radiotherapy and control group 26 patients were treated with chemotherapy single. Results Pain relief was 78.2% in therapy group and 76.9% in control group. The general remission rate (CR+PR) was 69.6% in therapy group and 30.8% in control group with significant difference between two groups (P0.01). The survival rates of 6 months and 12 months respectively 69.6%, 34.7% and 39.4% and 7.7% in therapy group and control group with significant difference. Conclusion Chemotherapy associated with three dimensional conformal radiotherapy on the locally advanced pancreatic cancer might control and elongate lifetime of patients which is better than single chemotherapy.
