Abstract

Objective:To investigate the relationship between serum resistin concentration and obese. Methods:Fasting serum resistin concentration was measured with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) in 47 subjects with impair glucose tolerant(IGT) and 52 subjects with normal glucose tolerant(NGT).These subjects were divided into two groups by body mass index(BMI,kg/m2):BMI≥25 group and BMI25 group. Results:Serum resistin level was significantly higher in IGT than that in NGT(P0.05),but this significance was lost after adjusting for BMI.Whether IGT or NGT,serum resistin level was significantly higher in group BMI≥25 than that in group BMI25.Spearman analysis shows that serum resistin level in NGT was significantly correlated with BMI,HOMA-IR,fasting serum insulin(FIns) and postprandial serum insulin(PIns),and serum resistin level in IGT was significantly correlated with FBG,FIns and PIns.Conclusion:The serum resistin may relate to obese which may play a role in the connection between obese and glucose metabolism. However, these results share the limitations of cross-sectional observational studies and small sample, more studies with larger sample are needed to confirm these results.
