Study of antipsychotics combined with paroxetine to treat the negative symptoms of schizophrenia

Abstract

Objective:To explore the effect of antipsychotics combined with paroxetine in the treatment of negative symptoms of chronic schizophrenia.Method:Thirty-three chronic schizophrenic inpatients with negative symptoms were studied.positive and negative symptom scale (PANSS) and treatment emergent sympton scale (TESS) were used to assess the efficacy and side effects before and after treatments.Results:After 12 weeks of treatments,the total scores of PANSS and scores of all the factors,including negative factor,emotional blunting,emotional withdrawal,emotional exchange disorder,passive/apathy, and social withdrawal factor were significantly decreased.Conclusion:It is illustrated that antipsychotics combined with paroxetine should significantly improve the negative symptoms of chronic schizophrenia.
