Abstract
The rice restorer line Gui 649 was developed from a cross between 501(a progeny of multiple indica/japonica hybridization) as the female and Gui 99(a fine quality indica restorer line) as the male through 5 years and 8 generations of selection. It has japonica genetic background with good plant type, heavy pollen load, good cold tolerance and lodging resistance and a desirable appearance at ripening stage. When it was crossed to different CMS lines such as Longtepu A and(Ⅱ-32 A),the F_1 hybrids showed a good yield heterosis and a suitable growth duration.Of them, the hybrid Teyou 649 was certified and registered by Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Committee for Registration of Crop Varieties in February,2004 and by the end of 2005,it had been planted to an accumulative area of 8 433 hectares.
