Abstract

Objective:To study the expression of PCNA and its clinical significance in esophageal cancer. Methods: The expression of PCNA was semiquantitatively investigated through the SABC immunohistochemical technique in esophageal cancer to expore its clinopathological correlation and clinical significance. Results: (1)The PCNA labeling imdex(LI)was 28.99±11.93 in the benign group. The expression level of PCNA was lower in benign group than that in the esophageal cancer group (50.97±10.01).(2)The expression of PCNA was independent of sex, age and position of tumor in esophageal cancer (P0.05), and (3) the expression of PCNA correlated with the clinical stages, growth style and serosal infiltration. Meanwhile, there was a significant relation to cell differentiation of tumor and its metastasis to lymph nodes in esophageal cancer(P0.01).Conclusion: These data suggest that the dererioration of PCNA would be of significance in reflecting the malignant degree, imdicating lymph node metastasis, guiding treatment and evaluating tumor prognosis.
