Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of MEBO in treating chronic dacryocystitis. Method: 87 patients with 102 eyes suffering from chronic dacryocystitis were treated with MEBO in association with probing of lacrimal passage. Lacrimal points were anesthetized superficially and dilated. Lacrimal duct, canaliculus and lacrimal sac were washed with normal saline or chloromycetin eye drops. MEBO was applied directly into lacrimal duct, canaliculus and lacrimal sac.The treatment was done once every week for 2 to 5 weeks. Result: The total effective rate was 100%. No recurrence found after followed up for 6 months. Conclusion: MEBO treatment after probing of lacrimal passage is very efficacious for treating chronic dacryocystitis. It is easy and simple to apply, economical and worthy to be popularized.
