Abstract

Objective:To explore the best therapy of dacryocystitis neonatorum. Methods:For the patients over 3 months old, the lacrimal passage irrigation was often used under superficial anesthesia.Adequate antibiotics and dexamethasone were added to the irrigating saline. Results:The lacrimal passage irrgation was effective in 24% of 3 422 eyes in 2 633 cases .The cure ratio of probing was 51% in first time, and 21.7% in the second. The total cure ratio was 96.7%.Conclusion:The best period for treatment of the dacryocystitis neonatorum is between 3-6 months old.The douching and probing of lacrimal passages are not only safe but also effective for treatment of dacryocystitis neonatorum.
