Abstract

Objective:In order to asses the value of colposcopic cervical biopsies in diagnosing cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. Methods:A retrospective analysis was carried out in 228 cases of CIN undergoing loop electrosurgical excision procedure, and/or conization of cervix and/or total hysterectomy between january and december 2007 at Maternal and Child Health hospital in Chongqing. Evaluate the accuracy of colposcopic cervical biopsies by compared with the final pathologic diagnosis. Results:The coincidence rate of colposcopic cervical biopsies and the final pathologic diagnosis was 75.00%(171/228). The discrepancy rate was 25.00%,but the rate of excessive diagnosis and underdiagnosis was 12.72%(29/228) and 12.28%(28/228)respectively. The rate of missed diagnosis was 3%(6/228),because the final pathologic diagnosis of 6 cases were invasive carcinoma of cervix. The rate of missed diagnosis in CIN1 and CIN3 was 0.92%(1/109),7.25(5/69)respectively. There were no significant diferences in rate of missed diagnosis between CIN1 and CIN3(χ2=3.42,P0.05). Conclusions:With a low rate of missed diagnosis which had no relation with the degree of CIN, colposcopic cervical biopsies was a convenient, economical,less wounded and a reliable method in diagnosing cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.
