Abstract
Isobutyl p hydroxybenzoate was synthesized in high yield by esterification of isobutyl alcohol with p hydroxybenzoic acid in the presence of sodium bisulfate monohydrate. The effects of the amount of sodium bisulfate monohydrate, the amount of isobutyl alcohol and reaction time on the yield of isobutyl p hydroxybenzoate have been investigated. The yield of the ester could reache 99.0% under amount of substance ratio of p hydroxybenzoic acid, isobutyl alcohol and sodium bisulfate were 1∶3∶0.036, refluxing and water segregation for 7h.
