Abstract
OBJECTIVE To master the epidemiological characteristics of pulmonary tuberculosis in Chongqing from 1998 to 2009 and analyze the variation as the basis to develop prevention and control measures.METHODS Analysis the monitoring reports which come from the system of disease surveillance in China about pulmonary tuberculosis in Chongqing from 1998 to 2009.RESULTS 359 851 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis were reported in Chongqing city from 1998 to 2009.The ratio between the male and female was 2.26︰1.From the point of the disease distribution by time, the average annual incidence rate was 100.81/100 000 and the average annual mortality rate was 17.98/10 000.The numbers of pulmonary tuberculosis patients were always increasing from 1998 to 2005,and reached peak in 2005,then decreased slowly. From the point of disease distribution by place, the average annual number of pulmonary tuberculosis patients was 731cases/year.From the point of the disease distribution by person, reported cases of pulmonary tuberculosis between the ages of 20 to 50 had the most patients, accounted for 71.78%.The populations with most cases were farmers, accounted for 58.57%.CONCLUSION The incidence of tuberculosis and the cases of tuberculosis are both rising from 1998 to 2009 in Chongqing. The distribution of pulmonary tuberculosis patients is significantly different in the region, age, occupation and gender. The prevention and control strategies should depend on the prevalent characteristics of pulmonary tuberculosis.
