Clinical study of levofloxacin triple therapy for Helicobacter pylori eradication

Abstract

Objective To explore the efficacy of 1-week triple therapy with esomeprazole,levofloxacin and amoxicillin for Helicobacter pylori( Hp) eradication. Methods One hundred patients with Hp infection suffering from peptic ulcer were divided randomly into treatment group and control groups.Treatment group: esomeprazole( 20 mg,twice a day),levofloxacin( 500 mg,once a day) and amoxicillin( 1000 mg,twice a day) were offered for 1-week; control group 1: esomeprazole( 20 mg,twice a day),amoxicillin( 1000 mg,twice a day) and metronidazole( 400 mg,twice a day) for 1-week; control group 2:esomeprazole( 20 mg,twice a day),amoxicillin( 1000 mg,twice a day) and clarithromycin( 500 mg,twice a day) for 1-week. Four to eight weeks later,the peptic ulcer healing,Hp eradication,and changes of14C-UBT were observed. Results The Hp peptic ulcer healing rates were 88. 2%,87. 9% and 87. 9%respectively. There was no significant statistically difference among three groups. The Hp elimination rates were 91. 2%,66. 7% and 72. 7%,the Hp eradication rates were 82. 4%,57. 6% and 60. 6%respectively. The differences between treatment group and control groups were significant( P 0. 05). After therapy,14C-UBT results decreased more significantly in treatment group( P 0. 05). Incidences of adverse effect showed no significant difference among three groups. Conclusions 1-week triple therapy with esomeprazole,levofloxacin and amoxicillin has high Hp eradication rate,low adverse effect rate,and therefore may be the first-line therapy for Hp eradication.
