Abstract
Objective To compare the disinfective effects of calcium hydroxide iodoform paste and calcium hydroxide paste for root canal preparation. Methods Diseased teeth(n=234) from 189 patients were equally divided into two treatment arms following the routine root canal preparation, namely one-week calcium hydroxide iodoform paste treatment group(n=117) and one-week calcium hydroxide paste treatment group(n= 117).All the patients were followed up to observe the occurrences of acute symptoms at various times. Results The effective rates of the treatment group were 88.9%,92.3%,and 97.9%,respectively.In contrast, those of the control group were 74.4%,85.1%,and 91.9%,respectively(P0.05).Conclusion Calcium hydroxide iodoform paste has a better root canal disinfective outcome and less acute symptom following root canal preparation.
