The curative effect of calcium hydroxide paste and calcium hydroxide iodoform paste in root canal disinfection

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the curative effect of calcium hydroxide paste and calcium hydroxide iodoform paste in root canal disinfection.METHODS 281 patients suffering from chronic pulpitis and chronic periapical periodontitis were selected.The root canals were prepared and the calcium hydroxide paste(Group A) or the calcium hydroxide paste(Group B) were randomly sealed into the root canal.Group A included 143 sufferers and Group B included 138 sufferers.Called them in 48 hours after operation to know if they had got endodontic inter-appointment pain(EIP).Compared the curative effect of the two groupes when they returned in a week.RESULTS There was statistically significant difference at EIP between the two groups(P0.05),but no statistically difference at the curative effect between the two groups in a week(P0.05).CONCLUSION Both calcium hydroxide paste and calcium hydroxide iodoform paste are both efficacious for root canal disinfection.But calcium hydroxide iodoform paste is more efficacious than calcium hydroxide paste in reducing the EIP.
