Comparison Between the Figures of“Superfluous Man” Depicted by Yu Dafu and Turgenev

Among the contemporary Chinese writers, Yu Dafu was deeply affected by the Russian writer Ivan Turgenev. Yu Dafu’s novel is similar to Turgenev’s in the ways of reflecting the social realities and creating the characters. Meanwhile, there are obvious differences in the ways of their characters' rebeltion against the society because of the difference between their composition styles for social and historical reasons. Yu Dafu expressed the figures’ rebellious awareness mainly by their psychological conflicts while Turgenev stressed the relationship between the emotion and action.
