Abstract

Objective To evaluate the curative effect of three-dimensional Guglielmi detachable coils (3D-GDC) on intracranial aneurysms. Methods 39 patients harboring 40 aneurysms treated with 3D-GDC embolization was reported. The diameters of aneurysms ranged from 4mm to 16.7 mm, and the necks were between 2.1 mm to 9.5 mm. Among them, 22 had a wide neck ( 4 mm). All cases were counterchecked by cerebrovascular angiography and followed-up for 2 to 33 months. Results 31 aneurysms in 30 patients were obliterated completely (77.5%),and subtotal occlusive rate was 22.5%. 81.8% of the wide-neck aneurysms were embolized totally. The correlated complications were present in 5 cases, and 2 had mild disability. Conclusion Endovascular embolization of intracranial aneurysms with 3D-GDC has great short-term curative effect now, but the long-term outcome still needs much more clinical data.
