Abstract

Objective To assess the efficacy of intracranial aneurysm embolization with Guglielmi detachable coils ( GDC) . Methods Forty-three aneurysms were embolized only with GDC. Three wide-neck aneurysms were embo-lized with stents and GDC. One wide-nick aneurysm was embolized using the remodeling technique. Angiography was performed before, during and after embolization. Patients were followed for 3 to 58 monthes. Results Forty-seven of forty-eight aneurysms in 47 cases were embolized by GDCs. 100% occlusion was achieved in 36 aneurysms (76. 5% ) , 90% in 6 (12. 8% ) ,80% in 2 (4. 3% ) , and 50% in 1 (2. 1% ). Embolization in two cases failed (4. 3% ) . A coincidental unruptured aneurysm was not embolized. Four cases using stenting or remodeling technique recovered well. No rebleeding occurred in this group after treatment. Conclusion Embolization of intracranial aneurysms with GDCs is safe, effective and reliable.
