On Humanistic Education: the Meanings,Values and Characteristics

Frequently used in the educational theory research circle,humanistic education is now a popular term with different versions of interpretations,which may result in either confusion in theory or misleading in practice.Therefore,this article gives a brief introduction to the related concepts of humanistic education and lays the theoretical foundation for this study by defining the meaning,characteristics,values and functions of humanistic education.On this basis,this paper traces the history of development of humanistic education in China and the West,searching the track of development of humanistic education and the practical starting point of humanistic education.By analyzing the essence of humanistic spirit,it is concluded that the essence of humanistic education is aiming at elevating humanity and orienting humanistic spirit.It regards raising humane spirit as the core,the personality molding as the key point.
