Abstract

Three new species of Vekunta from China and India are described and illustrated in this paper. Vekunta angusta Wu et Liang, sp. nov. (Figs.1-9) Length (incl. teg.): ♂ 5.3*!mm. This species is similar to V. tenella (Melichar) and V. punctula (Melichar) from Sri Lanka, but differs in head and pronotum yellow-brownish (pale yellow in tenella and punctula); face yellow-brownish (rather darker in tenella and punctula); frons with lateral sides curve and closer each other in the middle (straight in tenella and punctula); tegmen pale yellow (dirty brownish-yellow in tenella and punctula). Holotype♂, S. India: S. Coorg, Ammatti, 945*!m ft., Nov.1952, coll. P. S. Nathan. Deposited in North Carolina State University Insect Collection, Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.Vekunta asymmetrica Liang et Wu, sp. nov. (Figs.10-19) Length (incl. teg.): ♂ 6.1*!mm, ♀ 6.8*!mm. This species is similar to V. kotoshonis Matsumura from Taiwan, but can be separated from the latter by body larger, frons with lateral sides closer each other in the middle, tegmen with R and M fused at long distance, anal tube straight and by the shape of the aedeagus. Holotype♂, Xizang, Motuo,23 Sep.1979, coll. JIN Gen\|Tao and WU Jian\|Yi; paratypes 1♂, Xizang, Motuo, 1*!310*!m, 28 Sep.1979, coll. JIN Gen\|Tao and WU Jian\|Yi; 2♀♀, Xizang, Motuo, 1*!000*!m, 1 Aug.1979, coll. JIN Gen\|Tao and WU Jian\|Yi; 1♀, Xizang, Motuo, 1*!310*!m, light, 15 May 1979, coll. JIN Gen\|Tao and WU Jian\|Yi. Holotype and two female paratypes are deposited in Shanghai Institute of Entomology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, one male and one female paratype are deposited in Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.Vekunta triprotrusa Wu et Liang, sp. nov. (Figs.20-31) Length (incl. teg.): ♂ 5.4*!mm, ♀ 5.5*!mm. This species is similar to V. stigmata Matsumura from Taiwan, but can be separated from the latter by anal tube not dilated at basal third in profile, with straight lateral margin (angulated in stigmata), apex gently inclined ventrad (apical 2/5 curved in stigmata) and by the different shape of the aedeagus. It (♀) is also similar to V. flavipes Muir (♀) from Assam, but can be separated from the latter by the antennae yellow (light brown in flavipes); tegmen uniformly dark brownish except stigma (yellowish along costal margin in flavipes). Holotype♂, Yunnan: Xishuangbanna, Meng′a, Mengkang, 1*!000*!m, 7 May 1958, coll. ZHU Zhi\|Bin. Deposited in Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences; paratypes 1♂, Yunnan: Anning, Wenquan, 2 Sep.1958, coll. CHENG Han\|Hua. Deposited in Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences; 1♀, Yunnan: Ganlanba,10 Oct. 1979, coll. ZOU Huan\|Guang. Deposited in Nankai University.
