Effect and safety of carvedilol treatment in patients with chronic heart failure

Abstract

Objective:To investigate the effect and safty of carvedilol treatment in patients with chronic heart failure.Methods:A total of 40 patients with congestive heart failure(CHF)were randomly divided into carvedilol treatment group(treated group)and the routine treatment group(control group).Treated group received carvedilol for 12 months.The indices such as left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF),left ventricular end-diastolic diameter(LVEDd),left ventricular end-systolic diameter(LVESd)were measured by echocardiography before and after treatement.Results:Compared with before treatement,LVEF significantly increased,LVESd and LVEDd significantly decreased(P0.01)in two group,but those indexes of treated group improved more than those of control group(P0.01).Conclusion:Carvedilol treating chronic heart failure is effective and safe.
