OBSERVATION ON THE GERMICIDAL EFFICACY AND TOXICITY OF A FAST HAND DISINFECTANT

Abstract

Objective To observe the germicidal efficacy and toxicity of the a fast hand disinfectant containing ethanol as the main gemicidal ingredient.Methods Suspension quantitative gemicidal test and animal toxicity test were used to carry out laboratory study.Results The average killing logarithm value of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus in suspension exposed to the disinfectant containing 80%(v/v) ethanol for 1 min was 5.00.The killing logarithm value of Candida albicans exposed to the same disinfectant for 1 min was 4.00.The mouse oral toxicity LD50 of the disinfectant was 12.6 g/kg·bw,which belongs to practically non-toxic class.The stock solution of the disinfectant was not irritating to skin of healthy rabbit.Conclusions The fast hand disinfectant has good germicidal efficacy.Mouse acute oral toxicity test showed that it belongs to practically non-toxic class.It is not irritating to skin.
