The Characteristics of English-Chinese Metrical Poems And Translation

Abstract

This essay discusses respectively the characteristics of the English rhythmic poems and the Chinese classical rhythmic poems. It shows that the basic units of English poetic rhythm have evolved from the kinds of feet to measure while the level and oblique tones of the Chinese letters in a verse constitute the rhythm of the Chinese classical poems. Based on the comparison between the English rhythmic poems and the Chinese classical poems, the essay shows their differences and the disputes about the arts and skills of the English - into - Chinese poets translation.
