A Comparison of Special Prosodies of English and Chinese Poetry:English Typographical Poems and Chinese Palindrome Poems

Poetry generally possesses fresh and unique images.Poetry is often described as ideas with musicality,and the language is especially beautiful and concise.There are abundant and artful uses of metaphors,similes,and symbols.Nevertheless,poets are creative in producing visual effects,which is shown in English typographical poems and Chinese palindrome poems.In this paper,with the analysis of two poems by McGough and Cummings,and some palindrome poems by Su Shi and some other Chinese poets,an exploration is made to show that both Chinese and English poets try to create attractive visual poetic effects by way of typographical arrangement.
