Abstract

Objective To explore the efficacy and side effects of fluoxetine combined with small dose olanzapine in the treatment of depression patients. Methods 115 depression patients were randomly assigned to a study group(n=54) and a control group(n=61) for 12 weeks. The study group was treated with fluoxetine combined with small dose olanzapine while the control group with fluoxetine only. The clinical efficacy was evaluated using Hamilton depression scale(HAMD) as well as clinical global impression(CGI),and the side effects were evaluated by treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS) after 2,4,8 and 12 weeks treatment. Results The study group showed remarkable differences in HAMD and CGI scores compared with the control group. There were no significant differences in TESS reduction. Conclusion Fluoxetine combined with small dose olanzapine is effective in the treatment of depression with fewer side effects.
