Abstract

Objective To study the expression of Cx43 in normal cervical epithelia, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and cervical carcinomas and to evaluate their relationship with clinical pathological features are to understand the role of them in cervical carcinoma. Methods Immunohistochemistry was used to determine the expression of Cx43 in normal cervical epithelia, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and cervical carcinomas. Results The positive expression of Cx43 was 80.0%,52.2% and 50.0% in the group of normal cervical epithelia, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and cervical carcinomas, respectively. There were statistically significant among three groups(P0.01) and between normal cervical epithelia and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(P0.05).The positive expression rate of Cx43 in high and moderate differentiation carcinomas(73.9%) was significantly higher than that of those in low differentiation carcinomas(7.7%).The positive expression of Cx43 was significantly associated with pathological grade(P0.01).Conclusion It is suggested that Cx43 could act as inhibitor for the oncogenesis of the cervix.
