Abstract
Genetic variability was studied in a collection of twenty-seven varieties of pea. A considerable amount of phenotypic variability was observed in most of the characters such as number of fruits per plant, pod yield per plant, fruit size and number of primary branches per plant, while the variability was considerably low for the remaining characters. Studies on the genetic coefficient of variation, herita-bility and genetic advance showed a large number of phenotypic variability due to genetic and high heritable components in most of the cases. Association of high heritability with high genetic advance for fruit size, pod yield per plant and number of fruits per plant suggests additive gene effects.
