The Essential Oil of Pelargonium tomentosum Jacq. from Reunion

Abstract

Hydrodistilled essential oil from Pelargonium tomentosum Jacq. cultivated at the Reunion was analyzed by GC/MS. Menthone (33%) and isomenthone (59%) were the two main components among 30 separated compounds. Other components, in trace amounts, were usual monoterpene hydrocarbons, alcohols (menthols, terpineols, borneol), ketones (piperitone and veloutone, an unusual ketone). Seven compounds remain unidentified. Mass spectra of veloutone and those of four unidentified compounds are reported.
