Abstract
Objective To evaluate the clinical value of using brain natriuretic peptide(BNP) in diagnosis of congestive heart failure(CHF).Methods The levels of plasma BNP from 328 patients with CHF were measured by fluorescence immunoassay.Control plasma was obtained from 50 healthy subjects.Left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF), left ventricular end systolic diameter(LVESD) and left ventricular end diastolic diameter(LVEDD) were determined by color doppler ultrasonograghy. The relationship between the levels of plasma BNP and the values of LVEF, LVESD and LVEDD was studied. Results Levels of plasma BNP were markedly increased in patients with CHF(P0.01).The levels of plasma BNP were also significantly varied in patients with different degree of congestive heart failure(P0.01).There was an obvious correlation between the levels of BNP and the values of LVEF, LVESD and LVEDD(r was-0.61, 0.55 and 0.59, respectively, P0.01).Conclusion The level of plasma BNP can be used as an index for verification of ventricle function of CHF patients.
