Abstract
The main aims of this dissertation are done first to validate some naval architecture and marine engineering concepts learned during the B.eng Yacht and Powercraft design three years course, and secondly to investigate more deeply some of these on a concrete example. \nThe choice to design a 6m50 boat responding to the minitransat rules, fitted with a canting keel and a set of efficient appendages has been seen by the author as a good challenge and an interesting task to investigate. \nThe main aim was then to arrive with a final product that would be able to cross the Atlantic safely and to be in the competition in terms of performance with the actual existing leader boats. It has to be said here that results in races depends as much on the level of the man on board, the tactic and the preparation as the pure boat naval architecture performances. \n
