Abstract

The objective of this work is the creation of a Mini Transat 6.50 racing boat. This boat has to meet the Class requirements which establish a “box rule” for the hull design (See The Rules section). With a maximum length this little boat is placed as the smallest ocean racing boat this makes it a highly sophisticated machine; many new systems are tried in these boats to then be applied to bigger open boats. These new developments range from twin rudders to asymmetric daggerboards, canting keels and huge rotating bowspits. In this project a 3D rotational system will be evaluated, this system is made up of a keel which is allowed to cant, rotate and be trimmed. This system has been originally created by the French designer Lucas, which allowed me to use his principle to create a new system to be evaluated in this work.
