Abstract
Many industrial power plants must supply widely varying steam flows having short cycle durations. The results can be inefficient operation of boilers, inadequate supply of steam to process usage, moisture carry-over, oversized boilers, higher maintenance costs and missed opportunities for fuel conversion and cogeneration. Steam accumulators represent established technology which is receiving renewed attention because of industry's need to minimize both capital and operating costs for energy systems. Using examples of steam accumulator applications, the authors show how steam accumulators can reduce the size of boiler required, increase boiler plant operatin efficiency, and improve both power plant and production operations.
