Abstract

This paper points out the effect of heavy vehicles on early failure of bituminous pavement. The actual distribution of axle load is measured with movable axle meter as well as traffic survey. The effects of overload on the deflection and tensile stress of bituminous pavement are analyzed with linear and nonlinear method, and the axle load equivalent conversion method is given accordingly. The nut tests acted by heavy and normal load are accomplished, and the relationship between dynamic stability and axle load is provided. Based on above researches, the systematic design method of bituminous pavement is proposed.
