Abstract

Objective To study the composition and distribution of the animal host of plague in Guangzhou city. Methods Rodents were captured by cages and the species were identified.Flea index was determined and the antibody of plague F1 was determined by IHA.Results 1601 rodents belonging to 7 species,4 genera,2 family were caught. These included 1451 rattus and 150 insectivora.Total density of rodents and rattus was 12.09% and 11.50%,respectively.46 out of 242 rodents were found to have fleas and 92 fleas were identified as Xenopsylla cheopis. The total flea index was 0.38.No F1 antibody of plague was found. Conclusion The major rodent species in Guangzhou city is Rattus norvegicus and the major species of fleas is Xenopsylla cheopis.Epidemic plague was not found.
