Abstract

[Objective] To study the species composition and density of the host and the vector of plague in historical epidemic area in Guangdong Province, and provide the scientific evidence for the preventive measures. [Methods] Captured the rodents and fleas with live trap, and identified the species in 25 cities of Guangdong Province, then calculated the density of them. [Results] The rodents which were captured from 2005 to 2008 belonged to 2 orders,5 families,4 genera and 11 species. The primary rodents indoor were Rattus norvegicus,Rattus flavipectus and Suncus murinus, the primary rodents outdoor were Rattus rattoides losea and Bandicota indica. The rodent densities were 7.76% indoor and 3.16% outdoor respectively. 8 species of the fleas had been found on the rodents’ body. The flea infection rate was 33.60%. And the total flea index was 1.02. [Conclusion] The species composition of the host and the vector of plague is stable, the densities of the rodents and fleas are low very much. The possibility of outbreak of plague is prevented in Guangdong Province, and the surveillance is necessary.
