Abstract

The Swedish government is to invest E640.5 billion in road and rail in the period 2004-2015. Of this, E611.7 billion will go to the railways. Major projects in the Future Plan are described: the City Line and tunnel in Stockholm, the City Tunnel linking Malmoe Central Station with the Oeresund Bridge, the tunnel through Hallandsaes, the Bothnia Line that will link Sundvall and Umeae, and the Northern Bothnia Line between Umeae and Haparanda. Details are given of planned construction dates and costs. The government's decision also contains allocations for investing in rail freight transport and in operation and maintenance.
