Abstract
This paper focuses on describing pedestrian safety at signalized intersections in suburban areas starting with shortcomings of safety indicators and moving through a modeling process. In addition, several other components in the modeling effort are briefly described giving an overview of the entire modeling process. Thus, characterization and understanding of pedestrian safety at suburban intersections can enable better understanding of more effective signal operation and allow further development and evaluation of pedestrian and vehicular control strategies.
