Abstract

Eurailscout GB, a joint venture of Carillion Rail and Europool bv, has developed a 160 km/hour infrastructure inspection train that will operate on UK Network Rail's Southern Region. The UFM160 will be able to operate at speeds enabling it to meet pathing constraints. The UFM160 is also approved for use in Germany and Netherlands. It is a two-car train powered by two MAN underfloor diesel engines. Details are given of the track measurement systems (track geometry measuring system, laser-based rail profile measuring system), the overhead line equipment inspection system and the data analysis systems. Eurailscout GB is also developing a third rail measurement system for use on Network Rail's 750 V DC network south of London.
