Abstract
In recent years there have been significant changes in the economic factors affecting the gas transmission industry. There has also been increasing pressure to conserve energy particularly natural gas which is considered to be a preferred fuel for home heating. One method available to the industry to cope with these changes in economic factors, and to conserve energy, is to replace existing inefficient equipment with the new, higher efficiency equipment that is available today. An economic analysis of three such cases shows that replacement of old equipment in the 12,500-hp range appears quite practical and in the 25,000-hp range appears very attractive from both an energy conservation point of view and a return on investment point of view.
