Abstract
The integration of light rail transit into an existing roadway network provides significant challenges to the traffic engineer. In Dallas, the approach has been to adapt standard traffic control devices to meet motorist, pedestrian, and LRV operator needs. Special attention has been given to treat similar conditions in a uniform manner so that all users have the information necessary to operate safely and efficiently. The City of Dallas, DART, and its consultants have strived to provide a viable light rail transit system without creating any unnecessary negative impact on motorists.
