Abstract

The South West Metropolitan Railway project from Perth to Mandurah comprises a number of contracts. Package A is one of the major contracts that includes the rail bridges, underpasses and tunnels along the railway route South of Glen Iris. This paper presents the rail bridges and civil structures undertaken by CW-DC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Connell Wagner Pty Ltd, for RailLink JV, the contracted joint venture for the delivery of the design and construct component of Package A. The rail structures addressed comprise four rail over rail and rail over road bridges, and two rail / transitway underpasses along Ennis Ave, in Rockingham. The paper focuses on the structural elements associated with these bridges and underpasses. The tight delivery programme and significant shortage of skilled resources in the construction industry required standardisation and prefabrication of structural elements, and repetitive construction processes. In addition, particular site challenges had to be overcome to enable cost-effective structures to be constructed. (a) For the covering entry of this conference, please see ITRD abstract no. E214936.
