Abstract

The aim of this paper is to make an analysis on the application of electronic ticketing systems, and the possible benefits offered by these ticketing technologies applied to current bus systems. The approach comes from the growing importance of modern ticketing systems in transportation, considering any technical, social and economical urban context. They can be as monitoring tools and can help to improve the efficiency and the service level of fare systems. The proposed methodology focuses on the benefits obtained by the use of each technology, based on study cases implemented or being implemented in Brazil. The automatic ticketing systems are evaluated by means of the hierarchical analysis method able to find the best option in order to optimize the fare system. For the covering abstract see IRRD E102946.
