Abstract
This paper presents a review of the safety aspects of intelligent transportation systems (ITS). The authors first define the concept of traffic safety and then discuss the results of a literature search dealing with the traffic safety impact of ITS. The authors conclude that there is still considerable uncertainty regarding the safety impacts.
