TIME TO PAY GOODS DISTRIBUTION MORE ATTENTION IN URBAN PLANNING

Urban goods and service transports are important elements for a functioning society. Despite this, these transports are often more or less neglected in the planning process. Goods transports must operate in competition with other vehicles in an environment where little attention is paid to the special problems facing this type of transport. One explanation for this is the lack of knowledge among decision makers and planners about the importance and magnitude of urban goods transports. There is a need to develop planning models, check lists and other tools to better incorporate urban goods transport demands in overall planning procedure. Local traffic legislation should also be examined in this respect.
