FRAMEWORK PROGRAMME FOR GOODS TRANSPORT IN AN URBAN ENVIRONMENT

Abstract

There are few long term plans for the development of urban goods transport. It is important to create a research environment associated with universities which comprises urban planning, logistics and organisation, establish collaboration between researchers, municipal decision makers and business, and which has an international contact network. Essential aspects of research are: urban infrastructure, logistics to minimise resources and optimise service, technology and working procedures. The consumer must be of the greatest importance. Shopping and distribution patterns must be studied. Two examples are given for Goeteborg. Traffic flows between a town and its region, and between region and its surroundings, must be studied. Total cost is estimated at SEK 21m over 6 years.
