Abstract

The European Union co-finances studies and deployment projects in the field of telematics and traffic management mainly through the budget for the trans-European network for transport (more than 60 M ecu have been allocated to RTT (road transport telematics) projects in 1995-97). The most significant projects are those dealing with cross-border services. In particular five so called Euro-regional projects involving most of the EU Member States (12 out of 15) have been set up to promote trans-European transport telematics services. These projects are seen as the driving force for RTT deployment and have become key elements in the recently approved EU Action Plan in this area. For the covering abstract, see IRRD 490001.
