Abstract

The 109 km Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) between London ST. Pancras and the Channel Tunnel is expected to be fully operational in 2007. This British Pound 5.2 billion CTRL project will be the first high speed line in Great Britain. The initial 70 km section is underway and on target to open in September 2003. The public's dismay at prolonged delay to the start of construction is disappearing and giving way to optimism as the impressive physical shape of the first stage of the link is becoming visible.
