Abstract
This paper describes the design of a Global Positioning System (GPS) based emergency vehicle location and communication system. The complete system can be installed inside a vehicle and the pilot system consists of a GPS, a laptop PC, and a mobile phone. On emergency, the user presses a key on the keyboard and as a result of this the current geographical co-ordinates (latitude and longitude) of the vehicle, together with a pre-specified emergency text, is sent to an emergency service centre via the on-board mobile phone. The system described offers many advantages and can be used on the road, in the sea, or for any other emergency purpose. For the covering abstract, see IRRD 490001.
