Abstract

This paper reports on the Central Artery/Tunnel (CA/T) project in the Boston and New England area. It gives a summary description of the project and then describes Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems (IVHS) applications on the project, with a focus on safety. These will integrate two major subsystems, the Traffic Surveillance and Control System (TSCS) and Toll Operations. When completed, the project will have more IVHS technology within its infrastructure than any other highway in the U.S.
