MARTA READY FOR OLYMPIC ENDEAVOUR. DEVELOPING METROS 1993

In 1996, hundreds of thousands of visitors are set to descend on Atlanta when the city hosts the next Olympic Games. With over 650,000 spectators and athletes expected for the 16-day spectacular, public transport will have a vital role to play. Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority is already prepared. On an average weekday, the metro and buses carry nearly half a million passengers, and the city has already carried Olympic sized loadings during the past three Independence Day celebrations - and with room to spare. Atlanta is preparing to handle the throngs expected in Atlanta to watch the 1994 Super Bowl, and possibly within a year or so, one of the World Cup football matches. Atlanta is confident that coping with these mega-events will position them well for the 1996 Summer Olympics and beyond.
