Abstract
The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) created the nonprofit TRAC Program--which stands for transportation and civil engineering--to improve the quality and the diversity of the professional transportation workforce. The TRAC Program engages students in kindergarten through 12th grade in solving real-world problems, sends volunteer mentors into classrooms, and supplies teachers with materials to connect students to the work world of transportation professionals and civil engineers and to possible careers in these fields. Further details of the TRAC Program are provided in this article, along with information on the TRAC and AASHTO sponsored annual Design-Build Competition.
