Abstract

The new Studley Tunnel, in Shropshire, England, is a small bore water tunnel driven through diverse sedimentary strata with primary support according to the philosophy of the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM). Both the small scale of the project and the restricted tunnel size limited the use of specialised and varied equipment commonly associated with NATM techniques. The means of selection and control of the primary support and its application through the various geological conditions are described.(A) For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 828810.
